Tower Grove Park- On Sunday September 16, 2007, GAHS
celebrated the 238th anniversary of the birth of the founder of modern geography,
Alexander von Humboldt, at the Humboldt Statue in Tower Grove
Park. Kevin Haller, a
local artist, created a water-color image of the larger-than-life statue.
He also attended this event. More information on Kevin Haller can be
found under: www.kevinhaller.com.
St. Louis is fortunate that Tower Grove
Park is home to one of a
few statues in the world depicting the larger-than-life explorer as a younger
man upon his triumphant return from his famous voyages. More commonly he is
portrayed as an older man of 76, just like the life-sized
bronze statue in front of the famous von Humboldt University in Berlin.
Tower Grove Park
always appreciates any tax-deductible contributions to help cope with the
cost of last year's horrific tree damage and on-going replanting. St. Louis Stuttgart Sister Cities and The German American Heritage
Society of Saint Louis provide grants for just for this purpose.
